BRISBANE Lions captain Dayne Beams will miss the next two matches with a quad injury.

Beams suffered the injury during Saturday's 83-point loss to Port Adelaide, with scans this week revealing damage to his right quad.

The 27-year-old is expected to miss matches against the Sydney Swans and Hawthorn and will then have the injury reassessed.

Beams has made an excellent start to the season after missing all but two matches in 2016 with knee problems.

Vice-captain Tom Rockliff will fill in as captain in Beams' absence.

"Dayne is a resilient person who has worked hard over the past year to get back to playing consistent footy and we're confident he'll handle his rehab with the same professionalism and dedication," general manager of football David Noble said.

Beams is averaging 29 disposals a match through the first six rounds.
